Howdy! I'm Joseph DeGagne, an Illustration student at California State University Northridge. Working primarily digitally, I strive to make sports illustrations brimming with energy, interweaving typography and graphic design with notable players. While I enjoy all sports, hockey, baseball, and motorsports hold special places in my heart.
As a Los Angeles based artist, the influence and reach sports has is prominently engrained in the city's culture and history. This culture is a major influence in my artistic creation, as its driven me to make work that not only uses sports as its subject matter but also as a conduit to the respective city the illustration is based on. I make the work I do because I see sports as having a strong ability to inspire and influence others, whether it be through the achievements of teams or through the work ethic of a singular player. Highlighting these important aspects of our culture is my priority.
I use multiple programs to make my work: Procreate, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effects. Each program has their advantages and compliments each other through their strengths to help create my work. As a freelance illustrator, my goal is making sports illustrations that can be featured in the social channels and/or promotional materials of teams. Ideally, it is my dream to work for my favorite teams or work with them as my client to help them achieve their visual arts goals.
